Budget Groundhog Day: Shapiro’s Proposal Repeats the Past

Gov. Shapiro delivered his budget address Tuesday, Feb. 3, and it felt like Pennsylvania’s own Budget Groundhog Day — the same spending patterns repeating year after year. His 2026-27 proposal continues to rely on excessive spending, growing deficits and no serious plan to live within the state’s means. As Pennsylvania’s population ages and declines, this fiscally tone-deaf approach risks higher taxes and inflation for hardworking families. You can watch my response to the proposed budget here.

York Veteran Residents: Satellite Office Available for Assistance

If you live in the York area and need assistance, stop by my satellite office in the York County Administrative Center, Suite 216, 28 E. Market St. The office is open every Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Staff can help veterans with:

  • Emergency Assistance
  • Real Estate Tax Exemptions
  • Birth/Death Records
  • Pensions
  • Education Grants
  • PennDOT Services
  • Employment Resources

Advertising Veterans’ Resources in Workplaces

Beginning this month, all employers with more than 50 employees are required to physically display or post on their websites a notice from the Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) providing contact information for veterans’ resources and information regarding federal and state benefits and services for veterans.

Free Help for Veterans to Review and Update Benefits

As we start the new year, the DMVA encourages veterans to make reviewing or applying for their benefits a priority. Veterans can access free assistance in doing this through the DMVA, county offices and some veteran service organizations.

Expanding Access to Community Care for Veterans

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is working to expand veteran access to non-VA medical providers through the Community Care Program. The VA recently announced it is using the upcoming expiration of current contracts with health plans who serve as third-party administrators of the program as an opportunity to provide more choices and better care for veterans when they need to access care outside of the VA.

The Great American Outdoor Show

The Great American Outdoor Show is coming to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg. Billed as the “world’s largest outdoor show,” it includes nine days of celebrating hunting, fishing and outdoor traditions with exhibitors, live music, speaking events, archery competitions, celebrity appearances, seminars, demos and more. While there is a cost to attend and no specific veteran discount offered, the show has several special ticket prices

  • Feb. 7-15. Hours vary.
  • Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex – 2300 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg.
  • $10 parking is available with free shuttle service from several area lots.
