In this Update:
Thank You, Moms — For All You Do, Every DayThis coming Sunday, families across our district and Pennsylvania will be celebrating Mother’s Day — a time to recognize the unconditional love, strength and care that mothers, grandmothers and mother figures give every day. To all the moms across our district and the commonwealth: thank you for everything you do. Wishing you a joyful and love-filled Mother’s Day! PA Law Protects Patients from Surprise Medical BillsThe No Surprises Act protects patients from surprise medical bills in situations where they have little to no control over who provides their care. A surprise medical bill is an unexpected medical cost incurred when a patient unknowingly obtains health care services by an out-of-network provider. The No Surprises Act protects patients who receive emergency and non-emergency services from being billed for more than they would have paid if the providers were in-network. Military Appreciation Month Kicks Off at PA Capitol with VFW Loyalty Day CelebrationMilitary Appreciation Month officially began at the Pennsylvania Capitol with a Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Loyalty Day Celebration. It was an honor to serve as the guest speaker for this special event, standing shoulder to shoulder with the brave men and women who have selflessly served our country. Together, we paid tribute to the enduring values that lie at the heart of our nation’s military — loyalty, duty and patriotism. Loyalty Day, established to reaffirm our dedication to the United States and recognize the sacrifices of our veterans, serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and unity that define our nation. Today’s celebration was a meaningful start to a month devoted to honoring those that have served both past and present with pride and valor. As we move through Military Appreciation Month, may we all take the time to reflect on the courage and commitment of our service members and continue to uphold the ideals they have so bravely defended. Independent Fiscal Office Exposes Major Flaws in Gov. Shapiro’s Budget ProposalThe Pennsylvania Independent Fiscal Office (IFO) has released a concerning analysis of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s proposed 2025-26 state budget — revealing deeply flawed revenue projections and the potential for significant tax burdens on Pennsylvania families. According to the IFO, Shapiro’s budget overestimates the impact of proposed revenue measures by an astounding $4 billion over the next three fiscal years. Much of this projected revenue is based on new taxes — such as those from recreational marijuana, expanding gambling and restructuring corporate taxes — that have not been passed by the General Assembly and remain purely hypothetical. Despite these overly optimistic and unfounded projections, the governor’s budget still presents a $4.8 billion deficit, which would equate to an estimated $1,900 tax hike for every family of four in the commonwealth. This means that even if every one of the governor’s proposed taxes became law — which is far from guaranteed — the numbers still don’t add up. This kind of budgeting is unsustainable and unfair to hardworking Pennsylvanians. It is imperative that we pursue fiscal responsibility, transparency and realistic projections — not policies built on speculation and inflated assumptions. That’s why I’m calling to Hold the PA Budget Line at $47.9 billion. We must rein in runaway spending, prioritize core government functions and protect taxpayers from unnecessary burdens. Now more than ever, Pennsylvania families deserve a responsible, balanced budget — not one built on mathematical fallacies and broken promises. Concealed Carry Seminar on May 10Please join Rep.
