Wishing You a Blessed Easter

I would like to take a moment to wish you and your family a blessed and joyful Easter as we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ and reflect on the enduring values of faith, hope, love and grace.

With the arrival of spring, we are reminded of the many opportunities for growth and renewal around us. I hope you enjoy a peaceful and meaningful holiday weekend surrounded by loved ones.

Supporting Student Success Through Pennsylvania FFA Programs

The Pennsylvania FFA held their legislative breakfast on March 24 at the Penn Harris Hotel & Convention Center in Camp Hill. This annual event provides an opportunity to engage with FFA student leaders and members from across the commonwealth and to learn more about the impact of agricultural education on Pennsylvania’s future workforce.

It was especially meaningful to sit with members of the Dover FFA and hear about their experiences, leadership development and career goals. Their dedication highlights the important role FFA plays in preparing students for future success.

Pennsylvania FFA continues to play a vital role in developing the next generation of agricultural leaders through hands-on learning and mentorship. I am grateful for the opportunity to take part in this important event.

Celebrating Leadership and Impact at the CAEDC Annual Awards

I was pleased to join the Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) for its annual awards, celebrating the outstanding leaders, businesses and organizations that help drive growth and opportunity in our community.

It was great to see recognition given to those making significant contributions across Cumberland County, from economic development and lending to tourism and collaboration. These awards reflect the strong partnerships and innovation driving our region forward.

Congratulations to this year’s honorees, including Big 33, who received the Tourism Partner Excellence Award. I was also honored to present them with a Pennsylvania Senate Citation in recognition of their excellence in hospitality and tourism and consistent commitment to delivering exceptional visitor experiences.

Engaging with Advocates at the State Capitol

This past week, I met with several organizations during their advocacy days at the Capitol. I appreciate the time they took to stop by and share the challenges and roadblocks their industries are facing. These conversations provide valuable insight into where legislative efforts can reduce red tape, remove barriers and offer greater clarity in regulations.

Thank you to the following organizations for their time and engagement: United Way of York County, United Way of Carlisle and Cumberland County, Cumberland Perry Area Career and Technical Center and the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society.

I appreciate their continued advocacy and partnership as we work together to strengthen our communities and support the needs of those they serve

Strong Turnout for School Property Tax Town Hall in Red Lion

On Saturday, I joined Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill and Reps. Wendy Fink and Mike Jones for another successful School Property Tax Elimination Town Hall in Red Lion. Approximately 200 community members joined us to learn about the School Property Tax Elimination Act that Rep. Fink and I have proposed. This new approach would eliminate school property taxes and replace them with a fairer, more stable revenue model while ensuring strong, reliable funding for schools.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to join us and participate in a constructive conversation about the challenges facing taxpayers and potential solutions moving forward. Events like this help ensure we are hearing directly from residents as we work to address concerns and advance meaningful policy discussions.

We encourage residents to join us at our next town hall on April 30 at 5 p.m. at the Alert Fire Hall, 3118 N. George Street, Emigsville with Rep. Joe D’Orsie, Rep. Fink and former Rep. Frank Ryan. You can RSVP by calling 717-840-4711 or registering online.

Stay tuned for more town halls coming to a town near you.

Senate Acts to Protect Workers’ Compensation for First Responders

The Senate approved legislation to ensure volunteer fire and EMS personnel are covered by workers’ compensation if injured participating in the fundraising activities essential for covering the costs of providing public safety.

A 1980 court decision held that firefighters injured at their annual fundraising picnic were eligible for workers’ compensation because members were covered for all activities authorized by a municipality. However, current law does not provide the same coverage for the full scope of fundraising activities. Senate Bill 1053 would fill the gap, expressly providing workers’ compensation for volunteers’ participation in fundraising activities.

The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Legislation Giving Farmers More Vehicle Flexibility Approved by Senate

Cutting outdated regulations for farmers, the Senate approved a measure giving them greater flexibility to safely drive more farm vehicles on roadways at night, reflecting the real-world demands of modern farming.

Current state law prohibits certain farm vehicles from driving on Pennsylvania roadways between sunset and sunrise. Senate Bill 203 would allow farmers to operate their vehicles, ranging from small cars to larger trucks, when their work demands it. The vehicles already maintain equipment required by the state to safely operate at night.

Senate Bill 203 was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Guest Chaplains Invited to Open Senate Session with a Prayer

When the Senate gathers in Harrisburg to consider legislation, we open session with a non-denominational prayer delivered by a guest chaplain. Religious leaders from across the commonwealth have offered messages of peace, reflection and hope in this role for many years.

If you are interested in visiting the state Capitol when the Senate convenes for a session day to take part in this time-honored tradition, please contact my office for more details. Religious leaders of all faiths are welcome to reach out about this opportunity.
