City of York Welcomes New MayorCongratulations to the newly sworn-in city of York Mayor Sandie Walker. Mayor Walker’s passion for education and commitment to serving the community will be invaluable as she leads the city forward. I look forward to seeing the positive impact her leadership will have and wish her every success throughout her term. Protecting Pennsylvania Farmland and America’s Food SupplyIn July 2025, I attended the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) and U.S. Department of War press conference announcing the seven-point National Farm Security Action Plan. This past December, the USDA advanced its Farm Security Action Plan to protect U.S. farmland and federal programs from foreign adversaries. Farm security is national security. That’s why I sponsored Pennsylvania’s Farmland Protection Bill, Senate Bill 386, to prevent foreign ownership of our agricultural land and preserve this vital resource for future generations. I appreciate the USDA’s support of legislators like me working to protect our farmland and secure America’s food supply. Jan. 31 Deadline for High School Seniors to Apply for America250PA ScholarshipsHigh school seniors have until Jan. 31 to apply for $10,000 scholarships as part of the America250PA celebration. Twenty-five scholarships will be awarded throughout six regions to commonwealth high school seniors planning to attend a Pennsylvania college or university in the 2026-27 academic year. More than three dozen schools will match the $10,000 if the student chooses their institution. You can learn more and apply here. National Human Trafficking Awareness MonthPennsylvania consistently ranks among the top 10 states for reported human trafficking cases. Over the past five years, 1,235 human-trafficking offenses were filed in 366 cases. The General Assembly has enacted several laws in recent years to combat this abuse in which people profit from the exploitation of others. You can find more statistics and ways to identify possible human trafficking in your community here. PennDOT Roadwork Schedules for Cumberland and York CountiesAs we move into the winter months, PennDOT road work schedules are released less frequently. To ensure you stay informed, we will share PennDOT news releases about specific construction projects planned in our senatorial district. Because these updates are issued based on project timelines, the information at the link may not change each week, and it may not include every project or reflect the latest conditions. We hope these updates help you plan ahead, avoid delays and travel safely throughout the season.
