Free Shredding and License Plate Replacement Event Oct. 4

Join Rep. Marc Anderson and me for a free event designed to help you protect your identity and keep your vehicle road-ready. The event will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Red Land High School, 560 Fishing Creek Road, Lewisberry.

Document Shredding
Securely dispose of old bank statements, medical records, tax documents and other personal papers to help prevent identity theft. There is a two-box limit per household, and items must be paper-based. For convenience, participants are asked to remain in their vehicles.

Damaged License Plate Replacement
The Fairview Township Police Department will be on-site to inspect license plates. Bring your vehicle with the damaged plate attached, along with a valid driver’s license and vehicle registration card. Once processed through PennDOT, new plates will be mailed directly to vehicle owners.

Residents who plan to replace a damaged license plate must register in advance. Registration is not required for document shredding.

For more information, contact my office at 717-432-1730 or Rep. Anderson’s office at 717-432-0792.

Avoid Scams Targeting York County Police Donation Drives

Attorney General Dave Sunday and the Bureau of Consumer Protection are warning the public about potential scams related to donation drives for the Northern York County Regional Police officers following the tragic shooting on Sept. 17, which left three officers dead and two injured.

Before donating, the public is urged to verify fundraisers through official channels, such as the Northern York County Regional Police Department or York County Pennsylvania Sheriff’s Office Facebook pages, and to confirm endorsement by police associations or the Fraternal Order of Police.

Anyone who suspects a scam should file a complaint or call 717-787-3391.

Talking Pennsylvania Priorities on the Ken Matthews Podcast

I joined the Ken Matthews Podcast for a great conversation about the issues that matter most to Pennsylvania families. We covered a wide range of topics, including the state budget, workforce development, energy and the work being done to grow opportunities for Pennsylvania workers and businesses.

I encourage you to tune in and hear the full discussion. It’s a great way to stay informed about what’s happening here in the commonwealth.

Find Out How the School Property Tax Elimination Act Could Affect You

School property taxes in Pennsylvania continue to climb, and families deserve real relief. That’s why I introduced Senate Bill 962, along with Rep. Wendy Fink’s House Bill 1649, known as the School Property Tax Elimination Act. The plan replaces school property taxes with a fairer, more stable revenue model while protecting strong school funding and supporting economic growth.

You don’t have to wait to see how this plan could affect you. Visit noprop.tax to estimate your potential savings. You’ll need:

  • Your annual income
  • School property taxes paid annually
  • Retirement income

This simple tool helps you understand how the School Property Tax Elimination Act could lower mortgage escrow payments, make housing more affordable, and still support our schools.

Together, we can build momentum to deliver real school property tax relief for families across the commonwealth.

PA Treasurer Announces Short-Term Funding for Head Start, County Services

The Pennsylvania Treasury Department will make $500 million available for Pennsylvania’s Head Start providers and county governments, helping to keep essential services funded while the 2025-26 state budget is finalized.

The funds will be distributed via short-term, investment loans which recipients will be required to pay back following enactment of a state budget. Treasurer Stacy Garrity said that to be eligible for this program, Head Start providers and county governments must indicate the investment will be used for immediate operating expenses.

More information is available from the Pennsylvania Treasury Department.

Open Government: How to Access Senate Bills, Votes and More

Pennsylvania Senate votes, debates, bills and much more can be accessed via the General Assembly’s website. Citizens can learn who represents them, read bills and amendments, review text of floor debates in the official Senate Journals, and see how senators voted on bills in committee and before the full Senate

The committee meeting schedule is also available, along with co-sponsorship memos and monthly expense reports for each senator. Senate sessions are livestreamed, and video from previous sessions is available back to Jan. 2025.

Pennsylvania statutes (our state laws), the state constitution, recently enacted laws, rules and regulations (PA Code), the PA Bulletin, and more can be viewed by going to the Statutes section

Don’t be Fooled by Fraudulent Ticket Sellers

The arrival of the NFL and college sports seasons is a good time to check out the playbook for avoiding fraudulent ticket sellers.

Attorney General Dave Sunday offers these suggestions to avoid being scammed:

  • Treat someone selling tickets to a popular sporting event with skepticism since these events are likely to be sellouts.
  • If you do buy from an individual, it should be someone you know personally, such as a relative, close friend or coworker.
  • Unless you know a seller personally, never pay for tickets with a peer-to-peer payment service — such as Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, CashApp or a wire transfer. If the person is a scammer, you won’t be able to get your money back because these apps don’t have the same consumer protections as credit cards.
  • When shopping for tickets, check the venue’s floor chart for the event to make sure that the section and seat number actually exist.
  • When buying tickets from a reputable seller, such as Ticketmaster or StubHub, make sure that the URL is the correct one and not for a look-alike site created by a scammer.

To report a scam, or if you believe you have been scammed, file a complaint at www.attorneygeneral.gov or by calling 717-787-3391.
