Constitution Day and Week Honor America’s Founding Principles

Tomorrow, Sept. 17, marks Constitution Day and the beginning of Constitution Week, which runs through Sept. 23. More than just a historical document, it is the foundation of our God-given freedoms and the guide that keeps our nation strong. It challenges us to do our part, to stay informed, speak up for what is right and protect the principles of liberty and justice that have shaped America for more than two centuries.

New Satellite Office Opening in York

I am pleased to announce the opening of a new satellite office in York to better serve residents of the 31st Senatorial District. The office will open Sept. 24 and hold weekly hours on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the York County Administrative Center, 28 E. Market St., York.

This satellite office is another step in my ongoing efforts to remain accessible and responsive to the people I serve.

Discussing Data Center Development and Related Legislation

I had the pleasure of speaking at the Policy Pulse Speaker Series hosted by the Harrisburg Regional Chamber and CREDC on the topic of data center development and legislation currently under consideration.

It was exciting to share insights and hear from attendees as they asked thoughtful questions and weighed in on this important issue. Conversations like this help ensure that policymaking reflects the needs and priorities of the communities we serve.

Thank you to the Chamber and CREDC for the invitation to speak and for hosting such a valuable discussion.

Northern York Police Open Advanced Operations Center

I recently joined Franklin Township supervisors for a tour of the new Northern York County Regional Police Department operations facility in Manchester Township. The state-of-the-art building is designed to meet the needs of a growing community while giving officers the resources they need to keep residents safe.

The facility features advanced technology, classrooms for officer training and the largest public safety training center in the Susquehanna Valley. These tools will ensure officers remain well-trained and prepared to serve the community now and in the years ahead. The new operations center represents a major investment in public safety and reflects the department’s commitment to excellence in policing.

Bring a School Property Tax Town Hall to Your Community

Property taxes keep climbing, and Pennsylvanians deserve real relief. That’s why I introduced Senate Bill 962 with Rep. Wendy Fink’s House Bill 1649, the School Property Tax Elimination Act. This plan replaces school property taxes with a fairer, more stable revenue model while protecting strong school funding and supporting economic growth.

We want to take this conversation across Pennsylvania, and you can help. If your community wants to learn how this plan can lower mortgage escrow payments, make housing more affordable and support schools, call my office at 717-432-1730 to see how you can set up a town hall event.

You also can see what town halls are already scheduled and read more about our plan here. Together, we can build momentum to deliver real property tax relief for families across the commonwealth.

Helping Disabled Veterans Enjoy Outdoor Activities

The Senate passed legislation supporting opportunities for Pennsylvania’s disabled veterans to participate in outdoor traditions.

Senate Bill 533 would streamline requirements for hunting and fur taking licenses and refine special permits for regulated hunting grounds to specifically benefit disabled veterans who take part in hunting events.

The legislation makes it easier for organizations to host hunts for disabled veterans by clarifying the permitting process and reducing unnecessary barriers, ensuring more veterans can be included in these events. Senate Bill 533 was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Senate Approves Bill to Expunge COVID-Era Citations

The Senate approved legislation to expunge punitive COVID-related citations issued by the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) against small businesses with liquor licenses. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives.

Every other commonwealth agency has dropped enforcement actions for COVID-era rule violations, recognizing the difficult situation restaurants faced. However, the PLCB has been using its license renewal process to punish license holders for not complying with COVID-related executive orders. This includes issuing conditional licenses, which come with higher insurance premiums, and requiring the sale of a liquor license, effectively putting someone out of business.

Senate Bill 241 would help local businesses by expunging COVID-related citations from the record of restaurants and bars that are under the purview of the PLCB.

PennDOT Roadwork Schedules for Cumberland and York Counties

To help you stay informed and plan your travels, I will be sharing weekly updates on PennDOT’s roadwork schedules for Cumberland and York counties. This information comes directly from PennDOT but may not include every roadwork project or be completely accurate. Updates will be posted every Friday as long as PennDOT provides the information. There may be weeks when no new details are shared. I hope these updates help you avoid delays and make your travel easier.
