In this Update:
Join Us on School Property Tax EliminationPennsylvanians want real relief from skyrocketing property taxes. That’s why I introduced Senate Bill 962 and Rep. Wendy Fink introduced House Bill 1649—the School Property Tax Elimination Act. This plan replaces school property taxes with a fairer, more stable revenue model while ensuring strong funding for our schools. Key highlights of the plan:

Supporting Our First RespondersI recently hosted a roundtable with EMS, fire and police personnel from across the 31st Senatorial District to discuss the challenges they face and the successes they have achieved in serving our community. Their insights are invaluable as we work to ensure they have the resources, training and support needed to continue performing their critical duties. From staffing and equipment needs to celebrating the lifesaving work already being done, the roundtable highlighted both the dedication and resilience of our emergency services professionals. I extend my sincere thanks to the EMS, fire and police professionals who participated for their dedication and unwavering commitment to protecting our communities. I am also grateful to Dover Township for hosting this important event. Strand Theatre Marks 100 Years of Arts and CultureThe Strand Theatre reached an extraordinary milestone this year, its 100th anniversary. To mark the occasion, I was proud to present a Pennsylvania Senate Citation to the Appell Center for the Performing Arts recognizing the Strand’s century-long contribution to downtown York. Since opening its doors in 1925, the Strand has stood as a cultural cornerstone, bringing world-class performances and community events to audiences of all ages. Its history is a testament to the power of the arts to unite, inspire and strengthen a community. Congratulations to the Appell Center on this remarkable achievement, and best wishes as you continue to build on this legacy for the next century. Connecting with York County FarmersI attended the York County Farm Bureau’s legislative breakfast and industry tour at Miller Plant Farm, providing an excellent opportunity to engage with local farmers, Farm Bureau members and community leaders. The discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities currently facing agriculture in our region, highlighting the important role that local producers play in supporting the economy and the community. Thank you to the York County Farm Bureau and Miller Plant Farm for hosting a well-organized and informative event. New Law Streamlines Fishing Licenses for Disabled VeteransA new law we passed earlier this year is now in effect removing the annual fishing license fee and application for veterans with 100% disability. Previously, only those disabled veterans with a 100% permanent disability determination from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs could receive free lifetime fishing licenses. Disabled veterans with a 100% disability determination also receive free licenses but must apply for them on an annual basis. Act 21 of 2025 takes away the annual fee and application part of the process and allows all disabled veterans with a 100% disability determination, whether or not it is a permanent determination, to purchase free lifetime fishing licenses. 2026-27 PA Student Aid Guide AvailableFor parents and students planning for college, the new Student Aid Guide from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) provides a complete overview of the financial aid process.
