In this Update:
National Night Out Brings Community Together Across the DistrictNational Night Out was an evening full of connection and community spirit! From one end of the district to the other, neighbors turned out in force to support and celebrate our local police officers, firefighters and first responders. Each event was filled with energy and a genuine sense of connection. Children explored emergency vehicles, families reconnected with friends and neighbors and residents of all ages came out to show their appreciation for those who serve and protect. The strong turnout and positive atmosphere were a powerful reminder of the values that make our communities so special. You can view more photos from National Night Out on my Facebook page. Thank you to all the local departments, volunteers and community members who made National Night Out a success. Upcoming Property Tax Elimination Town HallsAre you tired of rising property taxes? You’re not alone and we’re taking action. I’m working alongside Rep. Wendy Fink and colleagues from across Pennsylvania to advance bold solutions for homeowners. Together, we’re hosting a series of Property Tax Elimination Town Halls to share details about our legislation and hear directly from you. We’ve introduced the Property Tax Elimination Act (Senate Bill 962), a serious, long-overdue step toward eliminating property taxes in Pennsylvania. During each town hall, we’ll walk through the specifics of the legislation, answer your questions and invite your feedback. These events are an opportunity for real conversations about real solutions and how we can deliver lasting relief to homeowners across the commonwealth. Please join us at one of our upcoming town halls:
We’re committed to making your voice part of the solution. Mark your calendar, bring your questions and join the conversation. I look forward to seeing you there! New Veterans E-Newsletter: Sign Up and Share Your InputI’m pleased to announce the launch of a new e-newsletter created especially for the veterans of the 31st Senatorial District. This newsletter will share updates and information, but most importantly, I want it to reflect what matters to you. To help shape the content, I’m asking veterans to take a brief survey to share which topics, resources and news you’d find most helpful. If you’d like to receive the Veterans e-newsletter, you can here. Thank you for your service and thank you in advance for helping us build something meaningful and useful for our veteran community. Free Webinars Available from PHEAAAs students head off to college this fall, the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) is offering a series of free statewide webinars to help families prepare for the 2025–26 financial aid season. New Law Extends PA Guard Family Education BenefitThe Military Family Education Program (MFEP) covers the cost of a state college education for dependents of Pennsylvania National Guard members in return for a six-year service obligation. We passed a new law ensuring additional dependents are covered each time the member commits to an additional service obligation. The benefit is an incentive to encourage talented Guard members to continue their service to the commonwealth and nation. Many Guard members who benefited from the MFEP are deciding whether to commit to another six years. Act 32 of 2025 clarifies that a Guard member can receive a new MFEP assistance grant – helping an additional dependent – with each new service obligation. I was proud to support this family benefit for our men and women in uniform. Senate Acts to Ensure More Efficient Government SpendingThe Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission would be able to spend funds more efficiently under legislation passed by the Senate. The aim is to keep costs as low as possible for anglers and boaters. Currently, commission revenues are directed into either the Fish Fund or the Boat Fund, with no crossover permitted. This rigidity has led to inefficiencies and higher costs. Senate Bill 800 permits Fish Fund dollars to be used for expenditures and programs that benefit boaters and Boat Fund dollars to be used for expenditures and programs that benefit anglers, as long as they also benefit the original intent of the respective funds. The bill was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration. Planning a PA Capitol VisitYour Pennsylvania Capitol is not only the seat of state government, it’s also an architectural and artistic treasure to be experienced by citizens from across the commonwealth. Visitors are welcome to explore the building at their leisure on regular weekdays. You can also schedule a tour with a guide. Tours take about 30 to 45 minutes. You can plan a visit and book a tour of this 119-year-old National Historic Landmark here.
