Here’s Where Things Stand with the PA State Budget

With state budget negotiations still ongoing, many of you have reached out with questions about where things stand and what comes next.

I recently recorded a short video update to share the latest developments and explain why it’s critical we hold the line at $47.9 billion.

As always, I’ll continue fighting to ensure the state budget is fiscally responsible, respects taxpayers and strengthens Pennsylvania’s financial future.

Upcoming Town Hall: Let’s Talk Property Tax Elimination

On Monday, August 11, I will be joining Rep. Wendy Fink, Rep. Marc Anderson and former State Representative Frank Ryan for an important town hall on property tax elimination. The event will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Monaghan Township Volunteer Fire Company, located at 245 W. Siddonsburg Road in Dillsburg.

Property taxes remain one of the top concerns we hear about from residents, especially seniors and working families, who are burdened by rising costs. This town hall will provide a chance to hear directly from lawmakers working on real solutions to eliminate property taxes and create a fairer system for Pennsylvania taxpayers.

We’ll discuss proposed legislation, explain what it means for you and answer your questions. Whether you’re a homeowner, renter or someone planning for the future, your voice matters in this conversation.

To RSVP, please call Rep. Anderson’s office at 717-432-0792 or click here to register online.

I hope to see you there and hear your input on this critical issue.

Get Ready for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 5

National Night Out is a nationwide annual celebration of community spirit, public safety and neighborhood pride. This is your chance to step outside, meet your neighbors and connect with the local police officers, firefighters and first responders who help keep our communities safe. From block parties and cookouts to live music, kids’ activities, games and giveaways, there’s something for everyone to enjoy!

Check with your local township, borough or city office to see what events are planned in your area. Then grab your family, invite your friends and head out to join the celebration! It’s a great chance to show the strength of our community, enjoy a night of summer fun and thank the dedicated individuals who serve and protect us every day.

United Way’s Impact on Working Families in York County

I recently had the opportunity to join Senator Kristin Phillips-Hill for a tour of United Way of York County, where we saw firsthand how they’re supporting working families across our region.

One of the highlights of the visit was learning more about United Way’s efforts to revitalize a facility that will serve as a county-wide hub for the VITA program (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance). This vital program provides free tax preparation services to low- and moderate-income households while helping families navigate the tax system and maximize their returns.

Just last year, the VITA program returned more than $1.8 million to the pockets of York County residents. That’s real, tangible impact for families striving for financial stability.

A big thank you to the entire United Way team for the warm welcome and for your continued commitment to building a stronger, more financially secure community here in York County.

Bill to Expand Body Camera Use for Law Enforcement Passes Senate

To boost safety and accountability, the Senate passed legislation to expand the use of body-worn cameras to additional law enforcement personnel. The measure was sent to the House of Representatives for consideration.

Senate Bill 520 authorizes the use of body cameras by special agents with the Office of Attorney General, rangers with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, and officers and deputies with the Pennsylvania Game Commission and Fish and Boat Commission.

The bill also modernizes the legal framework for body camera usage to ensure consistency in how footage is recorded and managed, regardless of the department using it.

Celebrate National Ice Cream Month with PA Creameries

With nearly 5,000 dairy farms, Pennsylvania ranks third nationally in ice cream production. You can make your summer sweeter by visiting PA creameries through Scooped: An Ice Cream Trail.

The trail connects dairy farm families and ice cream lovers at 52 destinations statewide. Travelers can plan their adventures, learn about participating creameries and accumulate redeemable points by visiting trail stops and making purchases. Find a list of participating creameries, their features and sign-up information here.

PennDOT Roadwork Schedules for Cumberland and York Counties

To help you stay informed and plan your travels, I will be sharing weekly updates on PennDOT’s roadwork schedules for Cumberland and York counties. This information comes directly from PennDOT but may not include every roadwork project or be completely accurate. Updates will be posted every Friday as long as PennDOT provides the information. There may be weeks when no new details are shared. I hope these updates help you avoid delays and make your travel easier.
