Hearings on Proposed State Budget Set to Begin
Senate hearings begin this week on Gov. Josh Shapiro’s proposed 2026-27 state budget, a plan that spends more than we’re bringing in and will lead to new or increased taxes. The Senate Appropriations Committee will question department heads as we seek to reduce the size of the $53.3 billion spending plan that would increase spending by $2.7 billion – a 5.4% increase. The proposed budget would take $4.6 billion out of the state’s Rainy Day Fund, which is made up of emergency reserves that protect against future tax hikes. You can view the schedule and watch the two weeks of hearings here. Congratulations to the 2026 Big 33 Football and Cheer Teams
Congratulations to all the athletes and cheerleaders selected to represent Pennsylvania in the 2026 Big 33 Football Classic! I was thrilled to join the press conference where team rosters were announced and details about the Memorial Day weekend game were shared. Since 1957, the Big 33 has been a hallmark of high school football excellence and is often called the “Super Bowl of high school football.” I look forward to seeing the dedication, skill and sportsmanship of these talented students on the field and sidelines this year! Recognizing Rev. Aaron Anderson for Leadership and Service
I recently presented a Pennsylvania Senate citation to Aaron Anderson, CEO of Logos Academy, in recognition of his exceptional leadership and service to our community. His dedication to respectful leadership, collaboration and breaking down barriers continues to bring people together and strengthen our community. Through his leadership at Logos Academy and his broader community involvement, Anderson has made a meaningful impact on the lives of many individuals and families. His commitment to teamwork and empowering others reflects the values that help communities grow stronger and more connected. I congratulate Anderson on this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his continued service. Honoring York County Agriculture and Local Farmers
I recently attended the 39th annual York County Agricultural Recognition Banquet to honor the people and families who help keep agriculture strong in our community. It was a pleasure to hear from keynote speaker Dr. Meecee Baker, a respected leader and advocate for agriculture, and to congratulate all the award recipients. Hosted by the York County Agricultural Society, the banquet supports the Ag Education Fund, which provides scholarships, supplies and resources for local students and programs such as 4-H and Future Farmers of America (FFA). These efforts help ensure York County’s agricultural community continues to thrive and that the next generation of farmers and agricultural leaders has the support they need. Congratulations to all who were honored, and thank you for helping sustain York County’s proud agricultural tradition. Making a Difference: Visiting Katallasso Family Health Center
I recently had the opportunity to visit Katallasso Family Health Center and learn more about the important work they do providing health care to the uninsured and underinsured in York County. It was inspiring to see firsthand how their team delivers high-quality, licensed medical services with compassion and dedication. Katallasso is a faith-based, nonprofit provider, the only one of its kind in York, and operates without federal or state funding. Their work is made possible by the generosity of donors, who help ensure that neighbors who are often overlooked or forgotten can receive the care they need. I want to thank the Katallasso team for their commitment to our community and for the difference they make every day in the lives of those who need medical care most. For wintertime fun, our state parks and forests offer thousands of miles and hundreds of acres of designated snowmobile areas. Snowmobile trails are open until April 1 or earlier as determined by the district forester or park manager. It depends on having enough snow on the ground, so check the trail conditions page before you head out to see if trails are open and ready for riding. PennDOT Roadwork Schedules for Cumberland and York Counties
As we move into the winter months, PennDOT road work schedules are released less frequently. To ensure you stay informed, we will share PennDOT news releases about specific construction projects planned in our senatorial district. Because these updates are issued based on project timelines, the information at the link may not change each week, and it may not include every project or reflect the latest conditions. We hope these updates help you plan ahead, avoid delays and travel safely throughout the season.
