New Manchester Satellite Office Opens Aug. 20
I am pleased to announce that Rep. Joe D’Orsie and I will be opening a joint satellite office in Manchester Township on Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Manchester Township Municipal Building, 3200 Farmtrail Road, York. The office will be open on the third Thursday of each month from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., giving residents more convenient access to constituent services. Staff will be available to assist with property tax/rent rebates, PennDOT paperwork, birth and death certificates, veterans assistance and other state-related services. In addition, my York City Satellite Office hours will change to the first and third Wednesday of every month from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We hope you will stop in to say hello! Please join me Thursday, Sept. 10, for my Senior Expo from 10 a.m. to noon at the West Shore YMCA, 410 Fallowfield Road, Camp Hill. Admission is free, and more than 50 exhibitors will be on hand to answer questions and share information about programs, services and resources available to older adults and their families. In addition to valuable resources, attendees can take advantage of free health screenings and immunizations, enjoy light refreshments and enter for a chance to win door prizes. I hope you will join me for this informative and engaging event and learn more about the resources available in our community. I had a great time at Mechanicsburg Community Day, hosted by the Downtown Mechanicsburg Partnership. The event brought residents together for a day filled with fun, activities and opportunities to celebrate the community. One of the highlights was throwing the ceremonial first ball for the Keystone Base Ball Club of Harrisburg and experiencing the game as it was played in the 19th century. I also stopped by the Mechanicsburg Fire Department to thank our firefighters for their dedicated service and commitment to keeping our community safe. Beautiful weather, great people and a strong sense of community made for a wonderful day in Mechanicsburg. Raising Awareness of Human Trafficking in York
I recently attended YWCA York’s Red Sand Project on Continental Square in downtown York to help raise awareness about human trafficking and its impact on communities across Pennsylvania and the country. Human trafficking affects people in communities across Pennsylvania, including right here in York County. The Red Sand Project serves as a powerful reminder that we must work together to recognize the signs of trafficking, support victims and survivors, and ensure no one falls through the cracks. I appreciate YWCA York for bringing our community together to raise awareness and shine a light on this important issue. National Night Out Across the 31st District
National Night Out was a great opportunity to get out into our communities, meet with residents and thank the law enforcement officers and first responders who work every day to keep our neighborhoods safe. I enjoyed stopping by events all across the 31st District. Thank you to everyone who helped organize these events and to the residents who came out to participate. Events like National Night Out are a great reminder that strong communities are built when neighbors come together. A New Dining Experience Arrives in York
York continues to grow with new businesses bringing fresh ideas and opportunities to our community. I recently joined the team at Wonder to celebrate the grand opening of its newest location at 351 Loucks Road in York, and I’m excited to welcome this innovative dining concept to the area. Wonder offers a unique approach to dining, allowing guests to mix and match menu options from more than 20 restaurant concepts all in one place. The menu features dishes inspired by well-known chefs such as Bobby Flay, Marcus Samuelsson and Michael Symon, along with favorites from restaurants like Tejas Barbecue and Magnolia Bakery. I wish Wonder continued success as they become part of the York community and provide residents with another great dining option. A New Approach to Funding Pennsylvania Public Schools
Pennsylvania’s public education system relies too heavily on school property taxes, placing the burden primarily on homeowners and renters. My School Property Tax Elimination Act would eliminate these taxes and replace them with a broader-based model where everyone who buys taxable goods and services in Pennsylvania helps support education. My proposal would replace school property taxes with increases of 1.88% for the personal income tax and 2% for the sales and use tax. This creates a more balanced and predictable funding system, while giving Pennsylvanians more control over their tax burden instead of facing annual school property tax increases that can occur regardless of your ability to pay. Join me at one of my upcoming School Property Tax Elimination Town Halls to learn more about this proposal, ask questions and discuss the future of education funding in Pennsylvania.
Pennsylvania Has New Tools to Solve Violent Crimes
Law enforcement agencies will be able to access new tools to boost clearance rates for homicide and other violent crime cases through a new state law. The Violent Incident Clearance and Technological Investigative Methods (VICTIM) Act was enacted with the new state budget. The law establishes a grant program administered by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency to help police hire and retain detectives and investigators, and upgrade technology used to analyze evidence. Solving more violent crimes will help make communities safer by getting offenders off the streets while also serving as a deterrent to would-be criminals who know their crimes will not go unanswered. PA College Savings Fees Waived for Fifth Straight Year
Pennsylvania Treasurer Stacy Garrity announced asset-based fees for the PA 529 College and Career Savings Program’s Guaranteed Savings Plan (GSP) will be waived for the fifth year in a row. PA 529 GSP account owners will not see any asset-based fees on their quarterly statements for July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2027, resulting in $5.9 million in savings. This fee waiver is funded through surplus earnings of the GSP fund. The PA 529 GSP allows families to save at today’s tuition rates to meet tomorrow’s tuition costs. Families can choose from a variety of tuition levels to save from community college to Ivy League. PA 529 GSP account earnings are based on tuition inflation rates.
